Building up to the Easter holiday, I joined the visit to the Modern Terminals Limited organized by Women's International Shipping & Trading Association Hong Kong (WISTA HK). As a first-time visitor to a container terminal, I found it very refreshing and exciting!

We were met by Elin from Corporate Affairs who introduced us to the history, business, and structure of the company. Modern Terminals has been operating for over 50 years and is one of the longest-standing container terminal operators in Hong Kong. Their business includes container terminal operations and warehouse leasing, handling up to 7 million standard containers annually. In recent years, Modern Terminals has implemented a trial programme using hydrogenated vegetable oil, and they are the first company in Hong Kong to deploy this renewable diesel.

We then visited the control center, which provided us with a practical illustration of the daily operations and functioning of the container terminal. From there, we were able to oversee the entire container terminal and observe the process of cranes lifting containers. We also took this opportunity to take a lot of beautiful photos of the container terminals. Elin also enlightened us on the industry prospects and latest developments, highlighting the introduction of digital operations at the terminal to enhance Hong Kong's port competitiveness.
