Visit the Dalian Maritime University's Training Ship "Yukun"

Today, I visited the Dalian Maritime University's training ship "Yukun" with members of the Maritime Department Youth Group.

I had heard about this world's most advanced ocean-going training ship before, and finally had the opportunity to see the true face of the "Yukun".

At the beginning, we were guided by students from the Dalian Maritime University and they introduced the facilities on board. The "Yukun" is China's first self-developed and designed training ship specifically for maritime students. The "Yukun" is 116 meters long, 18 meters wide, 8.35 meters deep, with a total displacement of 6,000 tons, and can accommodate 236 people. It has a sailing speed of 18 knots per hour and a continuous sailing capacity of 100,000 nautical miles. The ship is equipped with advanced facilities such as multimedia classrooms, restaurant, library, and student dormitories.

Next, we went up to the second floor to the bridge, where there were many advanced navigation instruments, such as radars, electronic charts and communication systems. Students from the Dalian Maritime University explained the uses of each instrument to us one by one, and even taught us how to use the radar to check the position of other ships and wind speed data.

In the final session, the students shared their training experiences and life on a vessel. I realised that working on a ship is not as simple as it seems, as it requires extensive maritime knowledge. Every position on the ship is crucial. I hope I will have the opportunity to sail with them and experience this world!
